Collywood Films
At last someone decide to invest, launch and build up a filming industry for the Caribbean. Junior Hart the Brain child behind this historic venture is by no means shy of challenges. Junior was instrumental in breaking down the barriers that were holding back a lot of black artists in the Uk Music industry dominated by major record companies. Junior started his independent recording label Renk Records and smashed wide open a genre of music called Jungle. If you were a club goer in the earl 1990's, you would remember the then massive hit and now classic 'Incredible' by General Levy, for which Junior was responsible. Coming from such a background armed with all that experience in setting up and executing ideas, Junior always had his eye on the Caribbean film market. "Every 5 years a big budget film would come out of Jamaica and take the UK Caribbean community by storm, then thats it there is nothing for the next 5 years."
As an Entrepreneur, Junior saw there was a massive market where Caribbean people wanted to see films about themselves and be able to relate to what they were watching on screen. Just to see lovely greenery and sea and the people back home." Every film that came out of the Caribbean has been well received by the Caribbean community in the UK." This is why Junior decided to invest and launch Collywood.
"Collywood was launched to bridge the gap in the market for good quality low budget films, and aims to become the Hollywood of the Caribbean, hence the name Collywood."
Collywood films finances, produces and distributes low budget films for the DVD home entertainment market worldwide
Collywood aims to assist the talented and creative people in the Caribbean and the UK to realise their full potential as directors, producers, scriptwriters, editors, actors, and actresses. Collywood will be able to finance creative ideas and go on to produce, distribute and sell directly to the Caribbean market. Funding for Collywood is totally independent with its own distribution network and screenings.
There are a great many interesting and positive stories within the Caribbean community, other than the standard guns, violence, dancehall style movies, that can be told through the medium of film.
Collywood believes that positive stories and images must start to be told about our peoples achievement, so our young people have something to aim for.
"Hollywood is telling stories about Americans, Bollywood about Asians, Nollywood about Nigerians, and finally Collywood is here to tell stories for the Caribbean."
