JACKIE GUY RETURNS TO THE LONDON STAGE!
We are living longer and dancing longer. The older person is often marginalised, with the younger, athletic and muscular body blazoned everywhere, and we are told dance is only for the young. But the mature dancer brings something unique: a seasoned and experienced body memory, a different aesthetic and energy, perhaps a deeper understanding of performance artistry.
Enthusiasts of African and Caribbean Dance will be delighted to learn that leading Jamaican-born artist
Jackie Guy returns to the London stage for two performances only on 27th & 28th November, in the national touring show
BODY OF EXPERIENCE. These are the final performances of the tour.
The show celebrates the mature performer, and is a unique opportunity to see the wonderful
Jackie Guy performing his solo
INNINGS: 84 NOT OUT, which was co-commissioned for the Royal Opera House’s Summer Collection 2006.
As one of Britain’s leading tutor/lecturers in
Afro-Caribbean dance and founding artistic director of Kokuma Dance,
Jackie Guy needs little introduction. For Body of Experience, Jackie has created a deeply personal solo performance, drawing on memories of his life, starting as a boy in Jamaica, and honouring the love and influence of his mother. The piece sees Jackie performing against a collage of stills taken throughout his life.
