Dear Black Pupils:
Re: Your Brilliant Destiny
I bring you good tidings; your future is brilliant! You are beloved & blessed and you are destined for greatness. There is every expectation that you will assume control of the world you inherit and leave it in a better place than its present state.
EYE (Enjoy Your Education)
I entreat you to enjoy your education (eye); don’t suffer it or endure it, enjoy it; enjoy your education! You can absorb the most fascinating universe of knowledge in your school environment because so much information is available to you. You have to take it and use it to benefit yourself, your community and the world. We are now living in an information age and information is the most valuable commodity today so go ahead and learn as much as you can. Information acquired and used for good will be directly proportionate to your wealth and wellbeing. I have met with thousands of you over the years and I have learnt that you desire and enjoy good things. Many of you spare no expense (your own or your parent's/carer's) in getting the best things. This tells me that you have great self-esteem and believe you deserve the best. I agree with you. You must apply this same logic to grades. The best grade you can acquire in school is A+. You are more than worth it. Acquire as much of them as you can and enjoy the process as you do so. The unit of currency for the quality products you buy or (or wish to buy) is money. I will let you in on a secret now: the unit of currency for purchasing grades in school is time. Spend inadequate time in scholastic preparation and you can only purchase low grades but spend optimum time in scholastic preparation and the sky is the limit, you can purchase A+ grades. And even if you don't always get the A or the A with the star keep aiming for the stars and celebrate even when you get close. Notice I said 'optimum time' not 'maximum time'; use your time to study and prepare but never neglect your spiritual, family and social life. Time is the most precious commodity and, unlike money, it is equally distributed (we all have 24 hours in each day); use your time well!
PSO (Problem Solving Opportunities)
'Home Work' is generally abbreviated as 'HW' but a new abbreviation I offer you: PSO (Problem Solving Opportunities). This world is riddled with problems and the current world leaders have created even more during their successive terms of leadership. Consequently the world is crying out for problem solvers. Whenever there are problems, be they social, political economic or otherwise, problem solvers are needed. When you get an academic task to do (at school or at home) you may find it helpful not to view it as work. Work is a good thing and you must have a relationship with it but in this case you may find it useful to view your academic tasks with another perspective. The idea of 'work' may not motivate you as it should. I would like you to think of these academic tasks as opportunities. They are golden opportunities to solve problems and therefore they are problem-solving opportunities (PSO). You are simply getting practice in solving problems and as you take the opportunity to solve more and more of these academic problems you are developing the parallel skills of solving the social, political and economic problems of the world. Your school environment is a microcosm of the world anyway so may as well use your time to practice your world leadership. Today you may have an opportunity to address your class of a thirty or less or more; tomorrow your message will be to people galore, and even nations.
World Leadership
When I refer to you as future world leaders the image in my mind is not only that of a leader of state like a Prime Minister or President of a nation. More importantly I envision someone who lives her or his life in such a way that people should desire to exemplify her or his conduct. This means living in a socially responsible way where you make a tangible and positive contribution to your community and the world. You embrace your God-given beauty take responsibility for your purpose and unique mission.
Prudent Student
Be Sagacious! In all your knowledge get understanding too. Take pride in a good reputation and develop a love and a passion for learning. Never stop learning and improving yourself. Identify your skills and talents and build on them; Implement them to enrich your lives and the lives of your neighbours. Your neighbours are those in need of your helping hands and charitable heart. Be of good service to your community and make a positive impact your world.
I will leave you with my poem to you:
Arise
You can do it so don't give up
Don't sleep away your dreams you must wake up
Speak out your ambitions do not shut up
Your feelings and ideas do not lock up
Express yourself you must get up
When learning in class it is best to sit up
In this race called life you must keep up
For your principles and rights you must stand up
Arise young people arise
Full time you realise
That the best in life you can achieve
So don't ever compromise
Awake young people open you eyes
No more listening to negative lies
Keep a positive vision alive
You are uniquely created, it's true
And no one else can carry through
That special mission you were put here to do
So step up and claim your great destiny
Embrace it with your soul and all your energy
This great destiny rightfully belong to you
One Love and Blessings,
Dave Neita
