Fashion Diversity
Museum of London is cutting a dash through
London Fashion Week, with Fashion Diversity, a showcase of new designers and models. In an exclusive catwalk show running in partnership with Mahogany Model Management and Untold, the capital's young designers will unveil their latest collections on Friday 19 and Saturday 20 September.
The shows will run during
London Fashion Week 2008 and will be a platform for training and
exhibiting new designers. Fashion Diversity's partners
Mahogany Model Management and
Untold and the Museum's own
Friends of Fashion hope the event will pave a way for people to express themselves and their creative work.
Kadiatu Kamara, one of the models participating in the shows comments: "I am extremely excited to be taking part in Fashion Diversity during London Fashion Week. It is a fantastic opportunity to amplify the voice, creations and talent of young designers and models in the UK."
Brett Martindale-Durning, a young designer from London taking part in the show comments: "Fashion Diversity offers an invaluable opportunity for young fashion designers such as me, to showcase creative designs to the competitive fashion industry as well as bringing new talent and inspiration to an established market. The fact that we can showcase during
London Fashion Week in Museum of London illustrates the impact we hope to achieve with our work in the fashion world."
The free fashion shows will encompass collections from both established and new UK designers and the final show on Saturday will parade the work of 10 designers from colleges across London and the UK. Their designs will be influenced by the costumes in the Museum of London's own fashion archives dating from the 1960s and 1970s.
Beatrice Behlen, Senior Curator, Fashion and Decorative Arts at Museum of London comments: "This is an important event to establish Museum of London as a key resource for historical fashion and knowledge as well as help amplify the voice of young and talented people within the capital. An event at the museum during London Fashion Week is a vital opportunity to accomplish both these goals."
